Saving a YouTube video is useful when you need an offline copy of your own upload, a public-domain recording, or a clip whose creator has explicitly allowed downloads. The important first step is not technical: confirm that you are allowed to keep a copy.
Only download content you own or have permission to save. Platform terms, copyright rules, and local laws still apply.
Before you download
Check the video description and license, and prefer YouTube’s own download features when they are available. Private, paid, age-restricted, or protected videos may require the official app and should not be routed through a third-party downloader.
For an eligible public video, copy the complete watch URL from the address bar or Share menu. Short links are fine as long as they point to the same public video.
Analyze the link
Open the web downloader, paste the URL, and choose Analyze. The service reads public metadata before showing a downloadable format. Signing in is required for the free trial so the one-use allowance can be associated with your account.
The web trial is intentionally small: one download per account, up to 720p, 10 minutes, and 500 MB. Longer or higher-resolution workflows are a better fit for the desktop product planned for a later release.
Choose a practical format
MP4 is the safest choice for phones, browsers, presentations, and most editors. When several qualities are available, choose the lowest resolution that still meets your viewing needs. A smaller file finishes faster and is easier to transfer.

Troubleshooting
If analysis succeeds but the download fails, the selected format may no longer be available from the provider. Re-analyze the original URL and choose another listed format. If the video is private, protected, live but not archived, or outside the trial limits, use the platform’s official option instead.
Keep the result organized
Rename the file with a clear subject and date, retain attribution when the license requires it, and avoid reposting someone else’s work. A tidy offline library is much easier to search than a folder full of auto-generated filenames.
